Perfect Your Polework Programme
The online course that takes you from copying layouts off social media… to actually understanding how to use poles to improve your horse.
You’ve seen the photos. A beautiful polework layout, horses stepping through it beautifully, and it looks so achievable.
So you set it up, you ride it… and somehow it just doesn’t go like that.
Maybe your horse loses his balance. Maybe he rushes, or goes crooked, or just looks thoroughly unimpressed with the whole thing. Maybe you’re not even sure you’ve got the distances right. And then you spend ten minutes putting the poles away again and wondering what you did wrong.
If that sounds familiar, it’s not because polework doesn’t work. It’s because nobody has ever properly explained how to use it.
That’s exactly what this course is for.
What this is
Perfect Your Polework is a complete online course that walks you through everything you need to know to use poles effectively and confidently in your horse’s schooling — from a single pole on the floor right through to more complex exercises in canter, raised poles, angled layouts, lunging, and ground work.
It’s not a collection of pretty diagrams and nothing else. It covers the why behind every exercise, the principles you need to actually ride them well, and how to adapt everything for your specific horse.
Over 7 hours of recorded training, 8 downloadable workbooks, and 50+ exercises, you’ll build the knowledge to go into your schooling with a plan that actually works — and the understanding to adjust it when you need to.
Please note that this is NOT a video collection of excellent riders and Grand Prix horses rding beautifully through polework exercises.
This programme is the theory, safety, practical set up, correct horse posture and riding skills needed to make polework fun, engaging for you and your horse… AND actually help you both improve your way of going at any level.
Who This Is For:
This course is for you if…
- You want to use polework more in your horse’s training but you’re not sure where to start
- You’ve tried exercises you’ve found online, but something always seems to go wrong and you don’t know how to fix it
- You want to get rid of the guesswork around distances, layouts, and how to ride each exercise correctly
- You only have access to a handful of poles and need ideas that work with what you’ve got
- Your horse gets a bit fizzy, loses his balance, or rushes through poles, and you’d love practical ways to help him
- You want to improve your horse’s way of going on the flat, his core strength, or his coordination — without having to jump
- You have a young horse, a horse in rehab, or a horse you’d like to include in polework from the ground
- You want to feel genuinely confident the next time you set a layout up, rather than just hoping for the best
Whether you’ve been riding for years or you’re newer to horse ownership, this course meets you where you are and builds from there.
What’s inside the Perfect Your Polework Programme
Module 1 — Introduction to Polework
Why polework is one of the most powerful tools in your training toolkit, how to plan and prepare for your sessions, what equipment you actually need, and how to create a safe working environment from the start.
Plus: Module 1.2 covers exactly how to ride polework well — the principles that many riders have just never been taught.
Module 2 — Distances
This is the module that changes everything. You’ll learn the standard distances for walk, trot, and canter, how to measure them practically without a tape measure, and — crucially — how to adjust them for your specific horse, whether he’s green, short-striding, fizzy, or in the early stages of rehab.
Module 3 — Layouts and Exercises
Working through simple exercises all the way to angled and raised poles, you’ll get 50+ different layouts with clear diagrams, and the understanding to ride every single one of them properly rather than just guessing.
Module 4 — Polework from the Ground
Because schooling doesn’t have to mean riding. You’ll cover polework for lunging, long-reining and in-hand work — with exercises, guidelines, and solutions for common problems at each.
What You’ll Actually Get:
- Lifetime access to all 7+ hours of recorded training
- 8 downloadable workbooks to use in your sessions at home
- 50+ exercise layouts with diagrams — covering everything from one pole to complex multi-pole setups
- Training on distances and how to adapt them for your horse
- Guidance on angled and raised poles, with step-by-step progressions
- A full module on polework from the ground (lunging, long-reining, in-hand)
- Troubleshooting sections covering the most common problems (rushing, knocking poles, refusing, wobbly lines, balance issues) and what to actually do about them
“I have recently completed the Perfect Your Polework course by The Everyday Equestrian — excellent course, very informative, work books provided before each webinar which allowed time to think about questions beforehand. The subject was covered in manageable elements at a convenient time, course content and delivery was excellent, can’t wait for the next course as I have learnt so much from this one. Alison puts so much effort into the material and delivery, I’ve never known anyone so motivated.”
“This course has taught me so much I didn’t know about polework. Alison’s diagrams and ideas about how to set the poles up and what exercises you could do really inspired me to get out with my horse and have a go. I also have my workbook to take with me so I can refer to it whenever I need to. I now have so many exercises I can do riding or on the ground to keep me going for months.”
Who Am I?
I’m Alison Buttery — BHS Accredited Senior Coach, NLP Practitioner, and former Senior Lecturer in Equine Science. I’ve worked with riders across all levels for many years, run polework and gridwork clinics, and I’m genuinely obsessed with helping horse owners build the understanding — not just the exercises — that makes training actually click.
This course came out of the questions I kept hearing at clinics and from clients schooling on their own at home: What distances should I use? What can I do with just a few poles? How do I know I’m doing it right? If those sound familiar, you’re in exactly the right place.

Not at all. The course starts from single pole exercises and works all the way up — there’s plenty of material even if you only have two or three poles at your disposal.
Is this course suitable for a less experienced riders and horses?
Yes. It’s designed to build from the foundations up, so wherever you’re starting from, you’ll find exercises and guidance that are appropriate for you and your horse.
Does the course include groundwork as well as ridden work?
Yes — Module 4 is dedicated to using polework for lunging, long-reining and in-hand work, so it covers schooling from the ground as well as from the saddle.
What if my horse is in rehabilitation or is young?
Both are covered specifically in the course, including how to introduce polework for a young horse and how to adjust exercises as part of a rehabilitation programme. Of course, you should follow the advice and guidance of your vet and/or equine physio if you horse in in rehab for any reason.
