New Owners
If you are a new or prospective horse owner then my Stage 1 Horse Management course is the ideal way of getting yourself up to speed with all the basics. Horse ownership is a considerable commitment. With the basic knowledge to ensure your horse stays fit, happy and healthy.
Existing Owners

You may have owned horses for a long time and be wondering what you could learn that you don’t already know. It’s amazing to see that sometimes long time horse owners do not know the basics of horse care. Many owners have a small amount of knowledge and as we call it ‘just get by’. By covering the basics you can ensure you become a knowledgeable horse owner. Providing the very best care possible for your horse.
College and University Students
For those students attending college or university and planning on studying equine-related courses, my Stage 1 Horse Management course can be a great starting point. Learning the basics of horse care and management will provide you with good foundational knowledge. This sets you up perfectly for learning more in-depth details about the subjects when you attend a college or university course. Depending on which course’s you are planning on taking you may be expected to already show some prior horse knowledge or professional qualifications to be accepted on to the course. My Stage 1 Horse Management course is an ideal starting first step into more advanced equine education.
Studying for BHS Exams
So, you’ve decided to study for your BHS exams and are wondering why my Stage 1 Horse Management course might be relevant? The BHS Stage 1 Horse Care and Knowledge exam is the first true exam by the BHS that covers the care aspects of working with horses. For those that aren’t familiar or experienced with exam situations, this first exam can be quite daunting. You don’t really know what to expect. One of the best things you can do is ensure you are fully prepped and know the syllabus inside out. My stage 1 Horse Management course takes you through the whole syllabus in bite-sized chunks. This ensures that learning is made easy and fun. You will acquire all the knowledge you need to be able to put this learning into practice, making exam day an absolute breeze.
Equine Careers
If you are looking to make a career out of working with horses 9 times out of 10 you will be expected to show prospective employers qualifications in this field or extensive experience. Either way, a sound knowledge of the basics of horse care will always be required. A good example of this is if you are looking to work in a yard. You will be required to demonstrate a basic knowledge of horse care at BHS Stage 1 or above. A yard manager will usually have qualifications from Stage 2 up (ideally stage 3 or 4). My Stage 1 Horse Management course will provide you with the basic knowledge to be able to care for horses in a professional environment. This is a must if you are looking to progress within an equine business as a career.
Pony Club
If your child is already taking part in pony club activities then they will likely be well adverse in taking proficiency tests in both riding and care. The pony club has a great structure for building on a child’s horse knowledge. This puts them in good stead for BHS examinations. If you are looking for your child to gain a much more rounded knowledge of horse care then why not sign up to my Stage 1 Horse Management course?
Home Schooling
Home schooling can be tricky for any parent. Trying to keep your child engaged and on a learning curve at home can certainly have its challenges. There are so many distractions at home. Whilst traditional educational subjects such as Maths and English are very important vocational subjects can teach your child additional skills that may not come from the likes of teaching your child their time’s tables. If your child is into horse’s then my Stage 1 Horse Management course is the ideal way to keep them engaged and learning whilst at home. It will teach your child not only the basic skills of horsemanship but respect, discipline and how to care for another living being. Learning the basics of horse care gives your child a sense of accountability and responsibility which stand them in good stead for the future.
Non-Horsey Parents
As a non-horsey parent with a child that has their own pony, the equine world can seem like a big blur. Horse ownership is a huge responsibility and unfortunately, this mostly lies with you as the adult in the equation. Your child may love and care for their pony deeply, but overseeing the care of your child’s pony and any big welfare decisions that need to be made lies with you. My Stage 1 Horse Management course is ideal for non-horsey parents that want to learn the basics and give themselves a good grounding knowledge of the care aspects of horse ownership. It can offer you a clearer understanding of the basic welfare needs of your child’s pony and can also help with your confidence around horses that may prevent you from interacting as much.
Refresher / Building Confidence
We all need a little refresher from time to time. It may be that you have already completed some horse care courses in the past and as time has passed certain information you once knew has been forgotten. You may find you have some confidence issues around your horse and some extra learning will help make you feel more confident when dealing with your horse on the ground. My Stage 1 Horse Management course is the ideal refresher for anyone who deals with horses regularly and requires a recap on basic welfare and care needs. Having a good grounding knowledge can help you feel more confident and at ease around horses.
General Interest
So, you’re not looking to own a horse. You don’t have much (if any) experience around horses. And you’re certainly not looking to enter into the Grand National anytime soon. You do however have a very keen interest in horses in general and would like to learn more. That’s great! We don’t always have to be fully emerged into something to want to learn more. If you have a general interest in horses and their care and would like to build on your knowledge my Stage 1 Horse Management course certainly fits the bill. It will teach you all the basics of horse care in a virtual, non pressurised environment. You never have to go near a horse if you don’t want to.
